Making some changes to New Conservative Generation and I need your help

Wednesday, November 18, 2009

Tonight, I take my final for my fall graduate course (it seemed as though this class would never end).  If you are new to this site, I have been laboring to complete my MBA for several years now.  I take about two courses a year, one in the fall and one in the spring.  It's a snail pace, but I'm a working man in the business of finance.  It's the best I can do.

With the end of my class tonight, I plan on refocusing my efforts to the blogging world and I could use input from my friends and readers.  I'd like to share some of my plans and get your ideas as well.

What I plan on doing:

Focusing the content of New Conservative Generation

Left Coast Rebel, a great friend of mine and brilliant blogger, has suggested I focus my posts on public finance and economics with a twist of unashamed, conservative political analysis and commentary.  If you want to interest readers, you need to differentiate.  Given my experience, education and background, going content specific is a great angle for me and this site.  I hope you will stop by often to read and comment on my posts regarding the money and economics involved in the politics and policy of the day.  You may have noticed, that I have already started.  Please let me know what you think.

Going Local in a Big Way

I live in Upstate NY, which means I live in the area of NY that is not NYC.  As evidenced by the NY-23 election, the local races here will prove to be a key battle ground for 2010.  There are about 4 or 5 upstate congressional seats held by Democrats in Republican strongholds and I plan on putting 110% into promoting local candidates with smart, level-headed ideas.

What are your thoughts?

Side projects?

I've long been thinking about starting other cooperative sites with other bloggers.  However, I have not been able to bring anything to fruition.  If you enjoy my writing, would like exclusive NCG content for your site, or just would like to engage in a side project, please shoot me an email.

Would you like to post your content?

I'm open to picking up your content as well, especially if you want to provide content relating to economics and finance (that's my proposed shtick).  Please send me an email.

Other thoughts?

What do you like?  What do you think should change?  What would you like to see?

Thank you everyone for your input and support!

C-Gen: Congrats, dude! Not everyone is committed enough to follow through.

I think the financial angle would be great. Just make sure you break it down to a first-grade level so I can understand it. I'm an economics idiot. :-D

I'll make sure to keep your email handy should I come up with a collaboration! ;-)

I say I prefer less ideological commentary on political things. I say I like dispassionate problem solving. In reality, I usually read things to take a brief break from engineering / problem solving. So I’m more likely to look at a train wreck or an ideological blog, i.e. empty calories.

I think your blog should focus on ideologically rightwing crap mostly, to get people’s attention. Then you throw them a curveball every once in a while with something apolitical, dispassionate, or maybe even left-leaning. I have no idea whether this formula works, but it would get me to read it.

Every so often I do a fluff piece of no substance in order to keep my head from exploding. Sometimes, I just have to step back and regroup. The formula seems to work okay for the most part.
Best of luck with tonight's final!

Blackandgoldfan - thanks so much for your input. My goal is to make things plain and simple, otherwise no one will read. Please let me know when I'm professoring instead of making an argument. I'd rather not bore people.

CJ - Thanks for the input. I most certainly could go the route you suggested. I once had an old argument that not everything GW Bush proposes can be bad as the left proclaimed. The argument works both ways. However, I am normally prevented by a few issues from doing so...time (There is usually so many things I disagree with, I don't get to the things that I do. If you were to read my earlier posts through today, you will see that progression), the other issue is that there are a lot that are trying to make the case for bad policies and the other side needs to be voiced. That is where I feel I generally fit in.

The world is coming to an end in 2012 so realistically just have fun blogging because at the end of the day whatever we think, or whatever we do, will just be for our own amusement...

C Gen, how'd the exam go?

I hope it went well. I had to develop a business strategy for Monsanto and do an "on the spot" easy for the final. I thought it was one of my better organized and though out strategies for the class. Hopefully, I will do well.

The professor is hard though and has that, you compete with your classmates grading style. The best argument gets the A, the next two get the B and so forth. I'll keep you posted though. I've been considering posting my essay...it's pretty geeky though.

Thanks for asking :)

I love the idea of focusing on economics and finance. These are two areas in which I am particularly weak, so having a great place to get responsible and informed views would be a God-send.

Also, wtg on the MBA!
