Alas! Someone is finally listening to me!

Via the Washington Examiner
Five months ago, I laid out my confusion regarding the large support from younger generations for Obama's agenda. There is a huge disconnect from the under thirty crowd regarding what health care reform really means for their generation. In short, I cannot understand why any rational person, from this generation, would support the Obama agenda.
It looks like the Washington Post has finally caught on:
"Now comes the House-passed health-care "reform" bill that, amazingly, would extract more subsidies from the young. It mandates that health insurance premiums for older Americans be no more than twice the level of that for younger Americans. That's much less than the actual health spending gap between young and old. Spending for those age 60 to 64 is four to five times greater than those 18 to 24. So, the young would overpay for insurance that -- under the House bill -- people must buy: Twenty- and thirtysomethings would subsidize premiums for fifty-and sixtysomethings. (Those 65 and over receive Medicare.)"
The article goes on:
"Although premium changes would apply mainly to people using insurance "exchanges," the differences would be substantial. A single person 55 to 64 might save $3,490, estimates an Urban Institute study. By contrast, single people in their 20s and early 30s might pay about $600 to $1,100 more. For the young, the extra cost might be larger, says economist Diana Furchtgott-Roth of the Hudson Institute, because the House bill would require them to purchase fairly generous insurance plans rather than cheaper catastrophic coverage that might better suit their needs."
When Obama was asked what the middle class would get from his health care reform he answered, "Peace of mind." The young missed it, but those words from Obama are, in actuality, a call to serfdom. Make no mistake, this is serfdom. In medieval times, a serf would work part of the landowner's property in return for food and protection. At least the medieval serfs of yore traded their freedom in exchange for something they had needed. For peace of mind from your philosopher-king, Lord Obama, you will pay dearly for what you don't need, health insurance.

Oh, yeah, the YOUNGER GENERATION!
November 24, 2009 at 10:40 AMThose kids who see nothing odd with the fact that their parents pay for their college education, that while now in their 20's they are still living at home...
It would seem to me that a whole generation of young people should be really accustomed with the concept of socialism...
Its all they have known!
I'm always listening!
November 24, 2009 at 4:46 PMAnd I'm raising my younger generation the RIGHT way and to be informed. It is possible!
Great post C-Gen. Frankly this issue with the HC takeover is just one of most blatant of many efforts that will lead young people down the road to serfdom. The massive federal debt finishes the situation off as it is a massive future tax on these young people. They know not what is coming down the pike.
November 24, 2009 at 5:47 PMthe 20 somethings don't have a clue what is about to happen. quite frankly, a lot of them don't have a clue period. We had a couple of interns this summer at work, and I really started to question the voting age!
November 24, 2009 at 7:54 PMTao - Agreed. Certainly not the greatest generation.
November 24, 2009 at 8:28 PMRight - the sooner we start the indoctrination the better.
LCR - and yet they expect to maintain their parents lifestyle...I don't get it.
whatmakesusright - LOL. Sounds like an interesting story. Thanks for stopping by and I'll be sure to add your blog to my blog list.
Some interesting numbers, and a hypothesis:
November 24, 2009 at 8:32 PMGallup... For the first time in the White House, Obama is below 50 percent with every age group of Americans except those between 18 and 29. He’s at 48 percent with people in the 30-49 range; 46 percent with people in the 50-64 range; and 42 percent with people 65 and over. Among those 18-29, he’s at 61 percent.
So as you've pointed out, the younger crowd likes Obama...no one else does. But here's something else:
He’s at 49 percent among those making $2,000 to $4,999 a month; 44 percent among those making $5,000 to $7,499 a month; and 48 percent among those making $7,500 and more a month. Among the bottom income group, those making less than $2,000 a month, Obama’s approval rating is 59 percent.
No surprise that Obama is appreciated more by the very lowest income group. But it's interesting that Obama has done a little better with the very highest income bracket than one might expect.
Why is he favored by higher income groups (who pay more than their fair share) and younger groups (who pay for more of what they don't need)?
I say it's because of our left leaning system of education.
Higher income groups have spent a greater portion of their lives in the hands of liberal academia, and the kids haven't even escaped yet.
Klik - thanks for the numbers. Very interesting. I would guess that with the top it is guilt...Obama promises to absolve and the lower tier is envy...Obama promises to punish their "oppressors."
November 24, 2009 at 8:47 PMMaybe the young people aren't all self-interested. Maybe they believe peace of mind is really a good goal, even if it costs them a few hundred dollars a month.
November 24, 2009 at 9:48 PMI can't get peace of mind from a gov't program, but if I believed a few hundred bucks would buy us peace of mind for the poor and a just society, I would very gladly pay it.
CJ - you can get peace of mind on your own. You don't need the government to do that for you. Donate, volunteer.
November 24, 2009 at 10:13 PMCJ - I would also be willing to pay for it. However, given the decades of government programs that have failed, I believe individuals and not government is the solution.
