Empire State Building Red Tonight - To Honor Chinese Communist Revolution
by the Left Coast Rebel
I guess you could put this story in the 'too many socialist infringements to keep track o' list'.........
The Empire State Building, icon of American capitalism, ingenuity, freedom and free-enterprise; the tallest building in Manhattan since the World-Trade Towers were downed by terrorists.....
Constructed in 410 days.
5 men lost their lives to the cause.
Built during the Great Depression no-less.
An achievement of American competiveness.....
Will be lit tonight, all night; in honor of the 60th Anniversary of the People's Republic of China. Yes, you read that right, the 60th anniversary of The Peoples Republic of China.
The 60th Anniversary of a revolution that killed millions and heralded a regime that still persecutes it's own people today; an affront to any freedom-loving/human-rights concerned-citizen. Perhaps the Fox News story above got it wrong though. Perhaps the Empire State Building's new Red hue.......
Is a celebration of the election of our Obamanation.

"Is a celebration of the election of our Obamanation..."
October 1, 2009 at 5:55 AMThat's cute!
I actually thought it was in celebration of free markets and Milton Friedman!
Considering that foreign countries own ov 25% of our GDP with their purchases of treasury bonds, and the chinese own more treasury bonds than anyone else.
The chinese also own more than 2 trillion dollars of US Dollars...and we are still borrowing a couple billion from them on a daily basis due to our balance of trade.
Paint the Empire State Building red in celebration of "Made In China"
Tao - I too was wondering if the Empire State Building celebration was some sort of "keep the customers happy" kind of thing. They own more of America than Americans. Why not dedicate some landmarks to them?
October 1, 2009 at 6:31 AMObivously they must be threatening to not buy anymore treasury bonds and or are talking about something other than using the US Dollar as the currency of exchange...
October 1, 2009 at 7:33 AMMaybe this is just a sneeky way of keeping them happy?
How about giving them WALL STREET?
They are not landmarks but I have one dog named "Comrade Mao" and another named "Uncle Ho" and they both have red, white, and blue collars on their necks....
Can't say I don't have a sense of humor...
TAO,
October 1, 2009 at 7:22 PMYou are right on the money (pardon the pun). I'm not quite as good at it as LCR. China along with a large share of the middle east countries like Saudi Arabia as well as some of the European EU nations are looking to divest or liquidate their US currency holdings. The President of Iran (Dino for short cuz he reminds my of little Dinosaur dog that is always nipping at Fred's heels) has publicly threatened to come up with a new monetary standard for all of the OPEC nations. Its the main reason we (US)are playing nice in the sandbox with Iran.
The reason why the US can run such high debts is because the world economy is based on the dollar. If the dollar goes up these countries own the US but if it goes down all of these countries go down with it. Its Reaganomics in reverse. Reagan made the value of dollar so high that it actually deflated the Russian currency causing the Russian government to the edge of bankruptcy. The problem with this plan is that it leaves the US without an exit tragedy and the US is now in Russia's shoes. China and the other nations including Russia have seen this scheme from the last 3 presidents and have threatened that if Obama deflates the dollar from its present value China would hold the US accountable for the full amount of the securities or it would dump them onto the open market making the US currency worthless. They would be able to basically buy the USA and turn it into a Chinese amusement park.
So at the moment Obama is standing between two vary tall buildings and they are both swaying in the breeze. He can not print any more money and he can not borrow any more money. He is not alone in this little shell game because his partners in crime Bush and Clinton started it. He has only one way to go. Raise taxes and cut government entitlement spending but it done in a way so that people think they are getting something for nothing in return. The problem is that a lot of people in the US are onto this game as well especially those of us in NY who have been watching our Governor use the same basic playbook here.
John,
October 2, 2009 at 6:47 PMI loved the commercials during the Beijing Olympics for Mastercard, Visa, and American Express...it seemed only appropriate that they should sponsor and promote those Olympics.
I also thought I would see their logos someplace during the 60th anniversary of the founding of Communist China...
They should have sponsored that also.
